Affidavits, Letters & Power of Attorney & School Documents

Affidavit is word that is derived from the Latin meaning “to pledge their faith under knowledge of the law”. It is a document or declaration under oath indicating the contents are true. Notary New York staff who are commissioned by the state of New York as a Notary Public to witness the signing of the document and notarize with the the stamps and seals authorized under New York state law. All of or our notary publics are commissioned by the State of New York Secretary of State.

Documents submitted to Notary New York for signature authentication must be notarized by a New York Notary Public. Virtually all of our notaries are either qualified in or have a certificate filed with New York County (also known as Manhattan). This helps us save your time and money, as we can avoid expensive and time consuming trips to suburban county clerk offices across the state. This is our "secret" to why we can often provide same day service without charging extra for "rush" service. We are able to handle everything all within the confines of Manhattan.  Often documents that have been notarized by other notaries will need a lot of extra time completing the process in order to visit their "home" country clerk's office in the authentication process.   For this reason, we recommend that either we notarize the documents for you, or that your ensure that the notary public you use is either "Qualified In New York County"  or has a "Certificate Filed in New York County" to avoid any potential delays.

Most common notarized documents are Power of Attorney documents, Heath Care Directives and Affidavits and other documents requiring your signature.

Customers requiring authentication of any school records (e.g., transcript or diploma) must obtain a notarized copy of the record from the high school, university, etc. before submitting the documents for Apostille, Authentication, or Legalization. Do not make the mistake to notarize your own diploma or school transcript. The receiving school, university, or foreign government will usually reject the document that you attest to yourself, as they want the a school official to notarized the document. With our mobile notary service, we can meet with the appropriate school official. Depending on your institution's policies, you can authorize our notary to go themselves, saving you the trip of accompanying the notary.

Power of Attorney

A Power of Attorney document gives the “power” or right of someone else to make legal decisions on your behalf. That person is called an “agent” or “attorney-in-fact.” By establishing a durable power of attorney this person or “agent” may have the power to act on your behalf for some, but not limited to the following:

  • To act as a corporate officer or agent
  • Make financial decisions for you (including writing checks, withdrawing money from bank)
  • Purchase or sell real estate
  • To pursue legal action on your behalf
  • To pursue Insurance claims on your behalf

For the Power of Attorney to be valid, with few exceptions, you must present yourself in person to a notary public. You will need to provide a valid unexpired government-issued ID, and sign the document in front of the notary. The notary will then “notarize” the document. Note, if the document does not have a notary certificate (the wording that makes it a valid notarization), please use a proper of Acknowledgement form. While no non-attorney can offer you legal advise, our notaries can supply you with an Acknowledgement form that our company has used in the past that maybe suitable for your purposes.
